Recap: Event #47: $10,000 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (Limit) Championship

“Johnny World” Hennigan is a seasoned Las Vegas poker veteran who went on to collect his fourth WSOP gold bracelet and $320,103 in prize money after winning Event #47 which was his 13th WSOP final table appearance.

Remarkably when interviewed after his win Hennigan had this to say on his performance: “What was really striking to me is I didn’t play that well. I got very lucky in this tournament. I didn’t really have it. But I got lucky at the right times. I bluffed and then caught, and I made so many hands. I normally think I played pretty well. But not this time. I played like sh*t.”

Michael Gathy from Belgium who is enjoying an amazing hot streak at this year’s Series, having already won Event #35, came runner up. He also finished second in Event #13 earlier on in the Series and has made close to $900,000 in tournament winnings.

Steven Wolansky, a poker pro from Florida who has had 19 WSOP cashes since 2013 including 3 final table appearances, took down Event #47 heads up against Wenlong Jin winning the second WSOP gold bracelet of his career and $298,849 in prize money.

On winning the 28 year old said: “My next goal is to just to keep doing what I am doing to learn from what I’m doing, to play well, and to have fun.”

Chris Ferguson, who has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons this year, finished in the money for the 7th time this series along with other notable players such as Phil Laak who finished in 23rd and Jennifer Shahade, a PokerStars sponsored Pro and chess Grandmaster who finished in 55th place.

Ankush Mandavia collected the top prize of $548,139 and the first gold bracelet of his career by winning Event #48. The 29 year old achieved the biggest win of his career against Daniel Strelitz who finished as runner up.

“I’ve had a lot of deep runs in the past, but until now had never closed the deal. So, it’s really gratifying to win. It feels really good.”
