Greg Merson has signed with online poker room WSOP.com, the former WSOP Main Event winner stated publicly this week.

The nature of his association is unclear and WSOP officials could not confirm the signing to pokerfuse.

Greg Merson, currently sitting at #197 in the Global Poker Index with nearly $11M in recorded lifetime tournament earnings, and is a two-time WSOP bracelet winner including one for the 2012 WSOP Main Event.

Through Merson’s Twitter, Facebook and his Instagram feed, the former Team Ivey pro has been promoting the games over at WSOP.com, fueling speculation that Merson had a special affiliate or promotional role for the site.

WSOP runs regulated online poker rooms in Nevada and New Jersey. The site sent nearly 100 online qualifiers into the WSOP $10K Main Event this year.

Merson Alludes to Connection

Apparently confirming a partnership, Merson responded publicly in a thread on the WSOP.com sponsored discussion forum on Two Plus Two discussing a recent name change of his account on the site.

“My name change was due to signing with WSOP.com and apologize if that wasn’t more clear by my tweets and instagram,” he wrote.

Merson was previously known to play under the name “Toddmcshay,” but this changed recently to GregMerson. The online poker room does not normally permit screen name changes.

“Since the name change I have not played on my other screen as it has been terminated [as far as I know],” Merson explained.

Instagram photos on Merson’s twitter stream show him playing under the old name on WSOP Nevada during the World Series, and a week ago playing on his new account.

Playing the Part

While officials with WSOP.com have been unwilling confirm any formal relationship with the former champ, it was confirmed officially that his old screen name was indeed terminated.

Multiple times in the recent past Merson has encourage friends and followers to sign up to WSOP.com through what looks to be a referral link, which could imply an individual affiliate deal.
