Amaya Shareholders Approve PokerStars Purchase

Regulatory and financial approvals keep the deal on track to complete by September 30.

  • Shareholders of Amaya Gaming Group Inc. have approved all the resolutions necessary to give Amaya executives the authority to finance its deal to acquire PokerStars.
  • With all shareholder and regulatory approvals in place, the deal should now close before September 30.
  • From a low point in mid-April, Amaya’s stock price has now risen 530%.

Survey Shows Fewer New Jersey Players Utilizing Offshore Online Gaming Sites

The number of holdouts who only play on non-New Jersey regulated sites has dropped by a third since January.

  • A survey of players in New Jersey has suggested that the regulated sites are attracting players away from offshore sites.
  • Promotions tied to local casino are the “most effective tool in bringing players to play online.”
  • The types of promotions that characterize the result include transferable loyalty points, and the offer of free or discounted hotel rooms at off peak times.

Sheldon Adelson to be Keynote Speaker at Global Gaming Expo G2E

Amaya CEO David Baazov, Steve Wynn, and MGM Chairman Jim Murren are all featured speakers.

  • Adelson will be giving one of two keynote speeches at the trade show which runs from September 30 to October 2, and with an audience composed of the illuminati of the land based and online gambling industry, he is expected to expound on his opposition to online poker in the US.
  • The other keynote speaker will be Steve Wynn, Chairman of Wynn Resorts Ltd, a friend of Adelson, and a convert to his opinions on online gambling.
  • The man of the moment, Amaya Gaming CEO David Baazov, is also programmed in for a State of the Industry: Suppliers session.
