The fundraiser for Kevin “Phwap” Boudreau is closing on its $50k target. Players and friends have now raised nearly $44k to help the popular online and live player who suffered a cerebral hemorrhage during a WSOP tournament break.

Ultimate Poker put on a charity tournament on Sunday afternoon, and John Juanda stepped up with a $10k donation of his own. The list of donors is an impressive display of the strength of the poker community.

“Poker Mom” expressed the community’s feeling with her own donation: “Our thoughts and prayers are with y’all. Hoping for Kevin’s full recovery. Donations: Even the smallest amount will help.”

The money is being raised to transport Kevin home from Las Vegas to Colorado where his family can care for him.

Updates on 2+2 from the many players who have visited him in hospital include:

He’s been moved out of the ICU into a normal room which is a lot more comfortable for his family and friends. There hasn’t been any substantial progress although that was expected. He’s breathing on his own now and making progress toward the point at which his family can transport him back to Colorado.

Players are showing their support for Kevin by wearing a green “Phwap Ship it Holla” bracelet at the WSOP, and there is a donation jar at the Gamblers Book Shop stand in the Rio All-Suite Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.
